✨ Why I Started Doing The Work

I found The Work by Byron Katie by chance I had been listening to Mel Robbins 'Let Them' theory and she had had Jay Shetty on her podcast. I clicked on to his podcast and he had a guest called Dr Daniel Amen who was talking about brain health. The podcast was coming to the end and he was talking about how he starts his day in the morning. He told Jay - 'I wake up and I tell myself it's going to be a great day'. If i have a negative thought I turn it around. He then went on to say he found this technique from Byron Katie. So I was curious to what she did and then I searched her and I found The Work. I started listening to her podcast and I turned it off as I thought 'no it's not for me'. However, I went back to it reminding myself i was trying things out for longer instead of just dismissing them after a one minute listen. So I listened to Katie do the work with people who had topics that interested me. Then I tried it for myself. I booked in for her talks online and then on a longer 'self inquiry' workshop , again online. I was hooked. Her work has opened a whole new world of possibilities for me and I had no choice but to share it.

The Work

The work is simple—but not always easy. It asked me to meet my thoughts with curiosity instead of fear. To question them instead of obey them. To consider:

“Is it true?”“Who am I when I believe this thought?”“Who would I be without it?”

The shift in me was instant. I had been doing a technique to eliminate limiting beliefs called the Lefkoe Method. I had gotten so far but something was missing. I had eliminated hundreds of beliefs that had held me back. I had completed the Natural Confidence Programme which has the most common limiting beliefs for low self esteem and confidence. there are 20 + beliefs and four conditioning including:

  • Mistakes and failure are bad.

  • I'm not good enough.

  • Change is difficult.

  • I'm not important.

  • Nothing I do is good enough.

  • I'm not capable.

  • I'm not competent.

  • I'm inadequate.

  • If I make a mistake or fail I'll be rejected.

  • I'm a failure.

  • I'm stupid.

  • I'm not worthy.

  • I'll never get what I want.

  • I'm powerless.

  • People aren't interested in what I have to say.

  • What I have to say isn't important.

  • What makes me good enough or important is having people think well of me.

  • It's dangerous to have people put their attention on me (something bad will happen).

  • What makes me good enough or important is doing things perfectly.

  • Conditioning: Fear associated with criticism and judgment.

  • Conditioning: Fear associated with not meeting expectations.

  • Conditioning: Fear associated with people putting their attention on me.

  • Conditioning: Fear associated with rejection.

However, I still had a deep dread inside of me. I felt anxious, I avoided things as much as possible and at one point I mainly binged Netflix, went to work and lay in bed.

Instead of trying to fix myself, I began to see that maybe I was never broken. Instead of fighting reality, I started to listen to it. I went on the sick and handed my notice in at work. I felt terrified I had held on to my role as a mental health nurse and felt what would I be without that role not to mention the lack of money and worry about that. however, I had to get away and rest I was exhausted to the point that I couldn't even drag myself into work anymore.

A Different Way of Seeing

I started this blog to share what I’ve learned—and what I’m still learning. You won’t find perfect answers here, just real reflections from someone who’s walked through burnout, self-doubt, and the search for freedom.

If you’re curious about The Work, or you’re simply tired of your own mind running the show, I hope you’ll find something helpful here. I’ll be sharing examples from my own life, insights I’ve picked up along the way, and honest accounts of what it’s like to question thoughts we’ve believed for years.

If You Want to Try It

Right now, I’m working on setting up a weekly meeting space for anyone who wants to learn this work with me and explore it further. I am also working on bringing the work to businesses and aim to bring it to staff teams to help alleviate suffering.

This is something I do because I believe in it, not as a formal therapy—but sometimes, having someone to sit with you in inquiry makes all the difference.

My Story (Continued)

Hi again — and thank you for being here. It’s hard to know where to begin, really. I’ve been saying to myself, “There has to be more to...
